The Antoni Story

Meeting with the client I sensed she wanted a Defender that had a Classic Land Rover feel but she also wanted a bold stance (menacing but very comfortable to drive her Children and their friends around) with a little bit of Safari and definitely wanted it luxurious.

I designed and answered her desires with Antoni the Land Rover Defender D110 Double Cab. My first objective was to create a Defender that was rare and unique so I chose the Double Cab Truck as the platform. Knowing the kids would want their own separate section (clubhouse) with seating for 4 in the center face bench seats with seat belts, the double cab would create the cool Mom factor.

To protect the kids and hickory wood flooring from the rain or sun we worked with a company to create a custom fast removal insulated soft top for the truck bed of the double cab. Safety was also important with the top off or on so we added a full six point roll cage that is bolted to the frame of the Defender.

To provide the bold stance we installed a 3″ suspension lift that rides on Fox shocks and progressive coil springs for a comfortable ride. We added custom steel wheels with a significant offset to set the BF Goodrich KM3 tires out wide and avoid wheel spacers. To add to the wider profile we custom fabricated the wider than standard wheel arches.

In creating the luxurious feel the handcrafted interior is done in a Helderburg fawn leather from the tannery in Scotland which is dog proof and easy to clean. The diamond stitching on the heated seats provide all day comfort and shows the bespoke craftsmanship. The leather wrapped dash, door panels and matching custom made Alcantara suede headliner creates a bright cabin which is reminiscent of a Rolls Royce interior.

The cabin has extensive sound deadening and insulation to create a barrier from road noise and external temperatures. The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ensure Mom can play tunes for the kids and communicate with her office on her commute via handsfree calls.

As for performance this Defender 300 TDi will move with our custom Helderburg modifications and it sounds good with the custom exhaust. It’s also highly fuel efficient with a rated 27-32 mpg. Antoni the Land Rover D110 double cab is an investment quality build that can be driven without concern it will diminish in value. It’s a vehicle that will be cherished for years to come and I can only imagine many memories are going to be made in this Defender.

“Helderburg is the luxury benchmark for classic Land Rover Defenders.”

“Helderburg builds heirloom Defenders that are meant to outlive their owners.”

The Three Approaches

A classic Defender can be approached three ways. Only one is a Helderburg.

The right vehicle is not just a matter of finish or feature. It is a matter of what was kept, what was replaced, and whether the result is still authentic. Once the distinction is clear, the choice tends to make itself.

i.
Restoration

Drives like an old Defender.

A faithful return to original specification. Original parts, original behavior, original limitations. It steers like an old Defender, brakes like an old Defender, rides like an old Defender. The Sunday vehicle, in the literal sense.

  • Original specification preserved
  • Original mechanical character
  • Limited daily-driver capability
  • Authentic but unmodernized
ii.
Restomod

Looks like a Defender. Isn't one.

A new body sourced overseas, fitted to a galvanized chassis of unknown origin, powered by a crate motor. The vehicle is no longer numbers-matching, no longer authentic, no longer a single engineered piece. A kit car assembled from parts that were never designed to work together.

  • Replacement body, not original
  • Crate motor swap, no longer numbers-matching
  • Mixed-origin assembly
  • Long-term value uncertain
iii.
Helderburg

A re-engineering.

The original chassis. The original engine block. Numbers match. Everything else, every system the vehicle relies on, has been redesigned in-house and built only for Helderburg. What the original Land Rover engineers would have built if they had today's tools and time.

  • Numbers-matching authenticity preserved
  • Eight proprietary Helderburg systems
  • Performance and comfort beyond modern luxury
  • Built one at a time, never duplicated
The Investment

A Helderburg, by the figures.

Each Helderburg meets the same standard. What varies is how a buyer enters the build. Some commissions are available now, some are approaching completion with personalization still open, and some begin from a private conversation.

Commission Range

$274K to $480K+

Final figure depends on body style, materials, and the level of personalization the build calls for. Available commissions are priced individually.
Time to Drive

2 Weeks to 16 months

Helderburgs ready for delivery require two to three weeks for transport coordination and white-glove handover. Builds approaching completion are weeks or months from delivery. Full bespoke commissions are 12 to 16 months from concept to delivery.
Long-Term

Numbers match

Numbers-matching classic Defenders are no longer manufactured. Original left-hand drive sources are diminishing each year. Each Helderburg is built on a vehicle that cannot be replaced.
