The Oyster Collection is a limited series of five Helderburg commissions

Tawny is the first of the collection and is available to reserve now, with scheduled completion before Valentine’s Day.

This Defender, Tawny, is currently under restoration and available for reservation. Unlike a completed vehicle, the future owner still has the opportunity to personalize key elements before final assembly.

The Oyster Collection

Recently I spent a great deal of time on the coast. Every morning before the world woke up, I would walk the beach. One morning I picked up an oyster shell and sat looking at it for a long time. It wasn’t white. It wasn’t gray. It wasn’t silver. It was all of those colors layered together in a way that nature somehow makes look effortless. That’s when the idea for The Oyster Collection was born.

Tawny is the first of only five commissions. It’s a custom Land Rover Defender 90 Soft Top inspired by the coast and built for those who appreciate timeless design and craftsmanship.

Finished in a custom Oyster Pearl Metallic, this restored vintage Defender captures the subtle depth and pearlescent glow found inside an oyster shell. The interior combines warm sand white and soft gray leather with a handcrafted teak cargo floor, ambient lighting, and a fold-down teak shelf integrated into the rear door for the moments that happen beyond the drive.

To complete Tawny, I asked Edward Ashcomb to create custom interior engravings inspired by the sea.

Every Helderburg Defender is hand built one at a time, combining the authenticity of a classic Land Rover Defender with the refinement expected from a modern grand touring vehicle.

  • Both. At its core, this is a genuine vintage Land Rover Defender receiving a complete frame-off restoration. What separates it from many restored Defenders is what happens beyond the restoration itself. The vehicle receives proprietary Helderburg upgrades developed to improve comfort, braking, steering, reliability, safety, and long-distance touring capability.
  • Not at all. Power steering, upgraded braking systems, suspension improvements, and numerous drivability enhancements make the vehicle remarkably approachable. Most first-time drivers are surprised by how easy it feels within the first few minutes behind the wheel.
  • Yes. Many owners use their Helderburg regularly for commuting, errands, weekend travel, and road trips. The goal has always been to create a Defender that feels special enough for an event yet practical enough to enjoy whenever the opportunity arises.
  • Much quieter than most vintage Defenders. While it still retains the character of a classic vehicle, extensive insulation, improved seals, upgraded materials, and Helderburg engineering significantly reduce noise compared to a typical restoration.
  • Yes. While many classic Defenders were originally equipped with manual transmissions, automatic transmission options are available for owners seeking additional convenience and ease of use.
  • The Bimini configuration can be enjoyed in just a few minutes. Complete removal of the canvas top generally takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, with reinstallation taking a similar amount of time.
  • Every Helderburg includes direct ownership support from our team. Whether you need service guidance, transportation recommendations, parts assistance, or ownership support, we remain available long after delivery.
  • Yes. The future owner may still select the exterior color, interior color, roof color, exotic wood flooring, and various finishing details before final assembly.
