Raleigh is a one-of-one Helderburg commission, created as a private tribute to my father and the English bicycle that inspired its name. He loved everything English—his Raleigh 3‑speed bicycle, Triumph motorcycles, and fine sporting guns—so this build carries the bicycle’s name and many of those memories in its metal.
At first glance, you might assume Raleigh is black. It isn’t. The body is a custom metallic green with a bronze undertone, a color mixed by eye to echo his bicycle’s deep brown, creamy white, and green. In the sun, the paint opens up and shows its depth, calm and intentional rather than loud.
Under the bonnet sits the Helderburg Mark 3.5 turbo diesel, our own engineered design. We retain the original block and chassis, yet almost everything around them is re‑engineered with Helderburg components—no off‑the‑shelf parts. Driven gently, Raleigh is quiet and refined. However, open the exhaust valves and the character changes: the turbo whistles, the exhaust crackles, and acceleration is strong enough to make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. A widened stance, revised suspension, and Helderburg braking system let this classic drive with the composure of a modern sports car, without the body roll typical of an old Defender.
The exterior carries Helderburg’s signature details: our exclusive bumper with stamped Helderburg logos, a German metal grille, and hand‑cut bonnet louvers that reference pre‑war Bugattis and Bentleys. Billet aluminum brackets, vents, and trim pieces quietly reinforce the sense of a fully re‑authored object rather than a restored truck.
Inside, Raleigh feels like an English library. The cabin combines brown and black leather with butterscotch stitching and subtle diamond quilting, paired with dark chocolate Italian Alcantara across the roof and a single panoramic glass roof. Throughout the interior, Master Engraver work appears on latches, window cranks, vents, and touch points, drawing inspiration from English sporting guns, field dogs, and time outdoors with my father. A high‑fidelity audio system uses Italian‑made amplifiers and French‑made speakers—some built exclusively for Helderburg—with soldered wiring looms designed to last for multiple generations.
Raleigh is numbers‑matching, built in England by craftsmen who spent their careers on these vehicles. It drives like a modern SUV, yet retains the iconic, vintage Defender silhouette, authenticity, and an heirloom level of finish designed to endure.
When you commission your own Helderburg, the process begins much like Raleigh did—with a conversation, not a configuration sheet. We start with what matters to you: the places that shaped you, the machines you remember, the colors and materials that feel inevitable rather than trendy. From there, we design a numbers‑matching, authentic British Defender, built in England by craftsmen who grew up with these vehicles, then re‑engineered to Helderburg standards using proprietary components you will not find anywhere else. The result is not simply a custom truck; it is a Helderburg commission—an heirloom object that carries your story now and will still feel correct decades from today.

The right vehicle is not just a matter of finish or feature. It is a matter of what was kept, what was replaced, and whether the result is still authentic. Once the distinction is clear, the choice tends to make itself.
A faithful return to original specification. Original parts, original behavior, original limitations. It steers like an old Defender, brakes like an old Defender, rides like an old Defender. The Sunday vehicle, in the literal sense.
A new body sourced overseas, fitted to a galvanized chassis of unknown origin, powered by a crate motor. The vehicle is no longer numbers-matching, no longer authentic, no longer a single engineered piece. A kit car assembled from parts that were never designed to work together.
The original chassis. The original engine block. Numbers match. Everything else, every system the vehicle relies on, has been redesigned in-house and built only for Helderburg. What the original Land Rover engineers would have built if they had today's tools and time.
Each Helderburg meets the same standard. What varies is how a buyer enters the build. Some commissions are available now, some are approaching completion with personalization still open, and some begin from a private conversation.
