Every Helderburg begins as a conversation. Some stay with us a little longer. Ragnar is one of those commissions. Built on a classic Land Rover Defender D110, Ragnar is less a spec sheet and more a portrait—of its owner, his travels, his photography, and the life he intends to live with it.
In this film, Paul and Lucy introduce Ragnar and the deeper meaning behind its name. The story began with poetry, long-form correspondence, and a shared obsession with objects that are meant to endure. Ragnar is the result of that dialogue: a purpose-built Helderburg for cross‑country expeditions, long days behind the wheel, and quiet nights spent setting up a 4×5 view camera while two Dobermans rest nearby. Nothing was added simply because it was possible. Every choice was edited, questioned, and ultimately kept only if it served the way this Defender will be used.
The retired exterior color—used only a handful of times and now closed in the Helderburg archive—shifts character in different light, from overcast Highland grey to rich metallic depth in the sun. Wide arches, high‑approach bumpers, panoramic roof panels, and considered audio all exist for a reason. Inside, the leather, seating, and even the instrument surround were specified to feel correct for long days, film cameras, and a life lived with dogs as constant companions.
Ragnar is a study in restraint: proof that timelessness comes not from doing more, but from knowing when to stop. If you are drawn to objects that feel personal—vehicles that are authored rather than configured—this film will give you a clear sense of how a Helderburg is brought to life around one individual’s story.
