There is a certain kind of surprise we all secretly enjoy.
The kind where you pretend the gift you bought is for your spouse, even though it fits your wrist, your garage, or your personality a little too perfectly.
Be honest. You have done it once or twice.
And I would never admit how many times I have.
That brings me to how this Helderburg commission began.
Travis called wanting to surprise his wife with a Helderburg. A beautiful sentiment, except the one he chose was unmistakably his dream. The moment he began describing it, I could hear the smile in his voice. My sense was that the “surprise for the wife” might have been a gift for himself. Rolling hills, open farmland, and the quiet companionship of Lucy and Leo while driving a Helderburg on a peaceful afternoon. The kind of moment when the world slows just enough for you to feel it.
Sometimes the simplest moments tell the richest stories.
