Painter Ridge is a private estate in the Litchfield Hills of Connecticut, within reach of New York City and a world apart from it. Everything here was considered. Nothing was left to chance. That is how I live, and it is how I paint.

I am not Helderburg. I am one of its owners. I bought mine, I came to understand it, and now I spend time with the people who are standing where I once stood. If you want to see a Helderburg in person before you commission one, this is where you do it.

I have nothing to sell you. That is exactly why I can help.

I left my first life in my forties. I will keep the details for when we meet. Now I paint, and I keep a small number of things that reward attention. A Helderburg is one of them.

When you come, you are not being handled. You are with someone who chose this, lives with it, and knows what separates a good one from a great one. Bring the questions you think sound naive. I asked every one of them myself.

A Helderburg is built for one person, not designed to appeal to others, and that freedom is the hard part. Color, proportion, the materials your hands meet every day. This is where a painter is useful. I help you see what you actually want, so the Helderburg you commission is the one you would have reached with another lifetime of looking. Colors here are studied, then retired. Yours should be no different.

A screen flattens everything that matters.

A photograph cannot give you the depth of a hand-mixed color, the weight of a door, or the quiet of the cabin once it closes. At Painter Ridge there are Helderburgs to see, to sit in, to put your hands on. If you want to drive one, that can be arranged. You will understand in an afternoon what no screen has managed to tell you.

Not a restoration, not a restomod. You feel the difference before anyone explains it.

There is no program. You come, we look, we talk. Nothing here is hurried toward a decision.

A note. Two Dobermans rule the place. They will likely meet you before I do.

How is a visit arranged?
By request. Visits are by appointment, hosted by Chris. Send a note or call, and you will hear back directly.
Where is Painter Ridge?
Washington, Connecticut, in the Litchfield Hills, within reach of New York City. The exact address is shared once a visit is confirmed.
Will I see an actual Helderburg?
Yes. There are Helderburgs here to see and to sit in. If you want to drive one, that can be arranged.
Do I need to have commissioned already?
No. Most who come are still deciding. That is the point of coming.
Can Chris really help with my commission?
Yes. Chris is an owner and a painter. His eye is most useful on the choices that are easy to get wrong, color above all.
May I bring my family?
Yes. Painter Ridge is a private home, so plan for a small group rather than a large party.
Can I bring my dog?
Better to leave yours at home. The estate already has two Dobermans who consider it theirs, and they would rather not share it for an afternoon.
How long should I plan for?
It is unhurried. Plan for that, and we will see where the day goes.
