D110 Double Cab Bahama Gold Walk-Around: The Bespoke Defender That Steals the Show
Step into the world of British automotive craftsmanship with Bayeux, the D110 Double Cab Defender, masterfully finished in a custom Bahama Gold Pearl. This rare body style doesn’t just echo classic Land Rover DNA—it redefines presence and purpose, blending rugged utility with luxury, and proudly wears a color that carries both history and individuality.
The D110 Double Cab stands apart from its larger sibling, the D130, in more ways than just length. As its name infers, the D110’s wheelbase is 110 inches, making it more compact and nimble than the 130-inch pickup truck variant. Crucially, the D110 is a true unibody, offering a seamless, integrated look instead of a separate bed. Its rarity is unparalleled—true British-built D110 Double Cabs are seldom seen, much less available, especially in North America. The model’s popularity soared after its starring role in the James Bond film, “Spectre,” which also inspired the bold, aggressive stance and outfitting of Bayeux.
This particular build draws heavily on that Spectre vibe, from its lifted suspension and wide, 35-inch Maxxis Trepador mud tires to the tri-level, thick steel bumper with integrated Warn Zeon 10,000-pound winch and distinctive KBX grille. The Bahama Gold Pearl paint isn’t stock—it’s custom blended for depth and subtlety, with undertones of green and brown that shift character in the light, creating a timeless yet modern effect. This shade, a nod to the original Range Rover color revived by the company’s new owners, is made more elegant by a dash of pearl and a careful primer base.
Every detail on Bayeux has a purpose: body-color-matched Spectre-style arch extensions are riveted for easy replacement after hard use, while checker plating atop the wings and a Puma bonnet with the signature raised “hump” further define its rugged silhouette. Billet aluminum hinges and windscreen brackets, thicker (five millimeter) glass, and heated windscreen all add both capability and refinement. Under the skin, everything from the axles and propshaft to the transmission is upgraded for durability and off-road prowess, while Fox shocks, progressive springs, and sway bars strike a balance between comfort and versatility.
Inside, Bayeux is a world away from the utilitarian roots of many Defenders. The cabin calls to mind a British library or cigar lounge, thanks to Mulliner-package chocolate leather seats hand-stitched in caramel thread, plush chocolate Alcantara suede headliner, and warm wood accents. Every element—steering wheel, shifter, seat frame, cubby, and even foam density—is bespoke to fit the owner, reflecting the hand-built values of this Defender, where craftsmen in independent shops across England labor over every detail.
State-of-the-art sound deadening ensures a solid, quiet ride, with triple-layer butyl rubber and special insulation throughout. Custom air conditioning seamlessly integrates with the heating and defrost, cooled by a high-capacity system. Apple CarPlay, USB ports, hi-fi audio, and subtle touches like roll-up leather-trimmed windows blend old-world charm with modern convenience.
Mechanically, the heart is a 300TDI turbo diesel—the last of the true mechanical Land Rover engines. It’s famed for reliability, simplicity, and ease of repair, using a VNT turbo, custom injection pump, and full-width intercooler for power and stamina. All matched with an easy-shifting manual transmission and smooth, power-assisted steering, tailored for daily comfort without sacrificing off-road authority.
Bayeux is more than a rare British classic—it’s a bespoke adventure companion, built to last lifetimes, turn heads, and invite admiration at every stop. From Moab trails to British show fields, it embodies the legacy, versatility, and unmatched soul that make genuine Defenders a global icon.
